Agona-Ashanti occupies a very great place in the history and culture of the Ashanti Kingdom. The Chief of Agona during the reign of Obiri Yeboa was called Okomfuo Yamoa., who had succeeded Nana Oppon Panyin/Oduro Panyin. After Okomfuo Yamoa died… during the reign of Osei Tutu I, Osei Tutu invited the elders of the Agona Stool and king-makers to ask them whether they had enstooled a new Chief.

They also said they had a regent… the Adontehene of the town serving as acting Chief. Osei Tutu then introduced his spiritual adviser Okomfo Anokye to the Agona Stool elders, and Otumfuo Osei Tutu suggested his trusted friend and adviser for consideration.

The Agona Stool elders agreed, and Okomfo Anokye was enstooled as Chief of Agona. That is how Okomfo Anokye became Chief of Agona. Osei Tutu also asked the Agona elders to allow Chief Okomfo Anokye to stay close to him in Kumase for his role as his spiritual adviser and Chief Priest. This was agreed and the Agona were assigned a place at Adum.

A library and a Cultural Center is being set up to teach tourist and researchers about the Ashanti Kingdom and also the realects of Okomfo Anokye.
